What makes a rare find

Rare here means cultivars and species you see far less often than a plain Pilea: Alocasia 'Jacklyn', Anthurium regale, Monstera obliqua 'Peru' and Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor', for example.

Many come from tropical forests and want a little more attention. Give them bright, indirect light, keep them warm (most want 16 °C or more) and away from draughts, and raise the humidity if your air is dry. An Alocasia can slow down or drop a leaf in the dark months, then regrow in spring. That's normal.
