An Alocasia with arrow-shaped leaves in very dark green, with wide pale green veins on every leaf. The leaves are glossy and slightly puckered. The stems are light green to pinkish brown.
Water when the top few centimetres of soil are dry. Too much water is the main risk: never leave it standing in water. Bright, indirect light, no direct midday sun. Keep it above 16 °C. It grows better in humid air.
Grows upright at a steady pace, with a new leaf every few weeks in spring and summer. Each new leaf is usually bigger than the last. In the cool, dark months it can slow down or drop a leaf, then regrow in spring. It stays fairly compact, about 45 cm when mature.
A cultivated hybrid; the genus grows wild in the rainforests of tropical Asia. Toxic to cats and dogs. Ships in a 6 cm pot.
