Checked, packed and posted by hand

Every plant is inspected before it goes in a box, and packed so it arrives standing up. Here's what that looks like — and what to do if one turns up unhappy.

Before it leaves us

  • Pest check

Leaves, stems and sticky traps, checked for thrips, mites, mealybugs and scale.

  • Root check

Only plants that are properly rooted are strong enough to travel.

  • One week apart

New arrivals are isolated for a week before they can be sold.

  • Plain water only

Leaves cleaned with water. No neem, no soap, no residue in your home.

If a plant doesn't pass, it doesn't ship.

How we pack

  • Each plant sits in a moulded blister, so nothing tips over or spills.
  • The blisters are 100% recyclable.
  • Heat pack and insulating paper in cold weather, at no extra cost.

To get your order ready
  • Order Wednesday to Sunday posted Monday
  • Order Monday posted Tuesday
  • Order Tuesday posted Wednesday

In a heatwave or a hard frost we hold your order back a few days rather than cook or freeze it in a depot — and we write to tell you.

The day it arrives

  • Open the box the same day. Light and air matter more than anything else.
  • Somewhere bright, out of direct sun, for the first few days.
  • Water only if the soil feels dry.
  • A bent leaf or one yellow lower leaf is travel wear, not damage.

Arrived sad?

Email us within 2 days with photos of the plant and of the box. A plant that won't pull through is refunded or replaced, its share of the shipping with it — and you keep the plant either way.

Struggling later?

After 2 days we can't refund it — but the help doesn't stop. Send a photo, tell us where it lives and when you last watered it, and we'll tell you how to fix it.
