An Alocasia with long, narrow leaves shaped like a spearhead, with wavy edges. On 'Variegata' the leaves are marbled in cream, pale green and dark green, and some come out almost completely cream. The stems are pale green with dark spots. Every leaf has a different pattern.
Water when the top few centimetres of soil are dry, and never leave it standing in water. Give it bright, indirect light: the pale parts can't feed the plant, so a dim spot weakens it. Keep it above 18 °C, in humid air. Leaves that are almost all cream die back sooner than the others. That is normal.
Grows upright at a steady pace, a little slower than the plain green form because of the variegation. Each new leaf is usually longer than the last. In the cool, dark months it can pause or drop a leaf, then regrow in spring. Over the years it can reach about 90 cm.
Native to the rainforests of New Guinea. Toxic to cats and dogs. Ships in a 6 cm pot.
