A Pilea with quilted, bronze-green leaves and a wide silver band down the middle of each one. The undersides are red. 'Norfolk' is darker than most, and new leaves come up almost purple.
Water when the top 2 to 3 cm of soil are dry. If it goes too dry the leaves droop, but they usually stand back up within a few hours of watering. Bright, indirect light is best, and it copes with a dimmer spot. Keep it above 13 °C and out of draughts. It likes a bit of extra humidity.
Grows at a steady pace into a low, bushy mound about 25 to 30 cm wide. The stems spread sideways rather than up. Pinch the tips to keep it full. Cuttings root easily in water.
Native to the rainforests of Central and South America. Non-toxic to cats and dogs. Ships in a 6 cm pot.
