A Peperomia with deeply rippled, heart-shaped leaves in dark burgundy red. The stems are red too. The ridges on the leaves catch the light and give them a shine.
Let the soil dry out almost completely before watering. It copes with a missed watering better than with too much. Bright, indirect light keeps the red at its deepest. It also copes with a dimmer spot, where the colour darkens and growth slows. Keep it above 15 °C.
Grows slowly into a compact, bushy clump about 20 cm tall, small enough for a shelf or a desk. In spring and summer it can put up thin, cream-coloured flower spikes.
Native to the rainforests of Brazil. Non-toxic to cats and dogs. Ships in a 6 cm pot.
