An Alocasia with thick, stiff leaves in silver-green, crossed by dark green veins. The surface is raised between the veins, so the leaves feel textured to the touch. 'Dragon Scale' is a form of Alocasia baginda.
Water when the top few centimetres of soil are dry. Too much water is the main risk: never leave it standing in water. Bright, indirect light, no direct midday sun. Keep it above 16 °C. It grows better in humid air.
Grows upright at a steady pace, with a new leaf every few weeks in spring and summer. Each new leaf is usually bigger than the last. In the cool, dark months it can slow down or drop a leaf, then regrow in spring. It reaches about 60 cm when mature.
Native to the forests of Borneo. Toxic to cats and dogs. Ships in a 6 cm pot.
