Houseplants as gifts: what to give, and how plants travel in winter

Five baby houseplants with a gift card

Short answer: pick an easy plant or a ready-made set, enter the recipient's address at checkout and tick "This is a gift" in the cart to add your message. In winter every box gets a heat pack, so the plants arrive warm.

Which plant for whom

Every set is five plants that go together, 10% less than buying them one by one.

How to send a plant as a gift

In the cart, tick "This is a gift" and write your message. At checkout, enter the recipient's address as the delivery address. We print your message on the note in the box, and the box has no prices in it.

Send it to an address where someone is home during the day, such as the recipient's workplace, so the parcel doesn't wait outside.

Short on time? The gift card arrives by email, to you or straight to the recipient on the day you choose, with your message. You can also print it and hand it over.

How plants travel in winter

Most houseplants come from the tropics and don't like the cold: below about 10 °C their leaves can be damaged. That's why every box we send in winter gets a heat pack, which keeps the inside of the parcel warm on its way through the post.

When the plant arrives

  • Unpack it straight away, and don't leave the parcel in a cold stairwell or letterbox.
  • Give it a bright spot, away from radiators and cold draughts.
  • Water it if the soil is dry; if it's still moist, wait a few days.
  • A leaf may droop after the journey. Give it a few days to settle in.

If a plant arrives damaged, send us a photo and we'll sort it out, as our refund policy explains.
