A Hoya with thick, waxy leaves in three colours: dark green edges, cream centres and patches of pink. New leaves often come out almost entirely pink.
The thick leaves store water, so a missed watering does no harm. Water every two to three weeks, once the soil is dry. Bright, indirect light keeps the cream and pink strong. Keep it above 12 °C.
It grows in spring and summer and rests in winter. The stems trail, or climb a small trellis if you give it one, and reach about a metre after a few years. Older plants flower: round clusters of pale pink, star-shaped flowers with a sweet scent. Leave the old flower stalks on, because new flowers grow from the same spot.
Native to southern China, Japan and eastern Australia, where it grows on trees and rocks. Non-toxic to cats and dogs. Ships in a 6 cm pot.
