A Calathea with dark green, pointed leaves striped with thin cream and pink lines. The undersides and the stems are deep purple. 'Meili' is a compact form of Calathea ornata.
Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Use rainwater or filtered water if your tap water is hard. Bright, indirect light is best, but it copes with a dimmer spot. Keep it above 18 °C, away from draughts and dry radiator air. Brown leaf tips mean the air is too dry.
It grows at a steady pace into a dense clump about 30 to 40 cm tall. The leaves fold up in the evening and open again in the morning.
The species is native to the rainforests of Colombia and Venezuela. It is non-toxic to cats and dogs. Ships in a 6 cm pot.
