The veins are sunken, so the leaf surface looks quilted. The undersides are dark purple. New leaves open greener and darken as they age.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWater when the top few centimetres of soil are dry. Too much water is the main risk: never leave it standing in water. Bright, indirect light, no direct midday sun. Keep it above 18 °C. It grows better in humid air.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGrows upright at a steady pace, with a new leaf every few weeks in spring and summer. Each new leaf is usually bigger than the last. In the cool, dark months it can slow down or drop a leaf, then regrow in spring. It stays fairly compact, about 40 cm when mature.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNative to the rainforests of Borneo.
